The Future of Statistical Thinking.

As Marriott (2014) reviews the development of statistical thinking over the last century, he provides an interesting quotation from the 1950 address given by S.S. Wilks to the 110th Annual Meeting of the American Statistical Association, in which Wilks states, “Statistical thinking will one day be as necessary for efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write” (p. 79).

Review the article, The Future of Statistical Thinking. Take a position. Is it true today that statistics are necessary in modern society?

First, title your post either “Understanding Statistics Is Necessary to Be an Effective Citizen” or “Understanding Statistics Is NOT Necessary to Be an Effective Citizen.”

For your initial post, address the following:

  • Make your case by persuasively supporting your position. Include at least one recent (within the past five years) scholarly source to support your position.
  • Relate one of these programmatic course themes to your position about whether statistics are indispensable in modern society. You may want to review the Programmatic Themes document.
    • Social justice
    • Career connections

In your responses to your peers, consider how well they justified their positions, making use of available sources. Consider the following questions in your response posts:

  • Did they support their position convincingly using scholarly sources?
  • Which of their points makes the most sense to you, even if you made a case for the opposing viewpoint?
  • Post an article, video, or visual to reinforce a peer’s idea or challenge them to see their point from a different perspective.

To complete this assignment, review the Discussion Rubric. You will also need:

Case Study

Case Study Instructions

You will write a 4–5-page paper in current APA format that focuses on 2 case studies from each week’s reading. Each paper must include at least 4 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. Each week there is a different set of cases for you to review. You must review them separately following the instructions below:

Module/Week 7:

Review the following 2 cases separately.

· In re: Zappos.com, Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation

· Verizon v. FCC

  1. State the facts of the case
    • What       happened in this case?
    • Who       are the parties?
    • What       motivated the parties to take this action?
    • List       the facts by level of importance.
  2. Discuss      the Issue: Th  Discuss the issues or      problems presented by the case.the legal issue is the question of law on      which resolution of the case turns. An issue should be presented in the      form of a question. While most cases revolve around a legal issue, you      should also consider issues of public policy, values in conflict, and      practical reality. For example, a case study involving abortion might      involve the following issues:
    • Legal:       Is abortion legal? If so, under what circumstances?
    • Public       Policy: Should abortion be legal? Why or why not?
    • Values       in Conflict: Which value is more important, a woman’s right to privacy or       an unborn child’s right to life? Why?
    • Practical:       What are the options open to someone faced with an unwanted pregnancy?       Where can someone in this situation go for help and advice?

3. Discuss the Arguments:  Now that you have defined the facts and issues, develop and discuss the arguments that can be made for each of the various points of view. For example, what are the arguments, both Pro and Con, for each point of view, which side provides the most compelling argument, and why, and what are the consequences?

  1. Conclusion:  Each of these cases has a court ruling. Do you      agree with the court’s decision (why or why not?). From a Christian      prospective, how does this decision impact Christianity and society? If      the impact is negative, what recommendations would you make to overcome      that impact?

rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the workplace

As we have learned, the nature of the workplace is changing rapidly. The rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence has decimated the employment prospects for many employees in many industries. It has also changed the nature of the role of human resource professionals. With that as a background, compose a paper that addresses the following:

· Provide a general overview on the rise in the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the workplace. Present evidence that the use of robots and artificial intelligence is increasingly taking the employment opportunities to which humans have traditionally performed, including the level and scope of this trend.

· Assess how this trend has affected the promise and security of continued employment for some/many in the United States economy, including an assessment on how the nature and type of employment is changing for the typical US worker (e.g., more part-time employment or static wages).

· Present the criteria a human resource professional should review before determining whether a position should be filled by a robot or through artificial intelligence.

· Discuss how these trends will affect the role of human resources, including the typical human resource functions such as recruitment, compensation, labor relations, risk and liability management, and organizational effectiveness.

· Finally, discuss the role and duty a human resource professional has to ensure full employment for employees and, most importantly, the responsibility human resources should assume for those workers displaced by a world where robots and artificial intelligence are increasingly performing.

Your paper should be:

· 12 pages (not including title and reference pages).

· Formatted according to apa

· Supported by 10 scholarly sources.

IRAC Basics

Use a newspaper, news magazine, or the internet (including articles posted on Canvas by instructor) to find a current article (if uncertain, please see the instructor to have your topic approved) related to business law to write about.  Briefly summarize your article and include some interesting facts or highlights. Lastly, and most importantly, discuss any concerns, issues, or thoughts you have about the subject matter raised in the article. This will be done by writing an IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) about the article.

Note on the syllabus calendar that there are two categories for the assignments.  The IRAC must apply to the subjects shown below:

IRAC #3 – Contracts

IRAC Basics:

Summary – write a brief summary of the article or case (no more than one (1) page.  Four things to remember when writing a summary:

  • use your words and phrases, not the author’s
  • use key points only…no details.
  • represent the material accurately and fairly
  • cite your source!!!!!!!!

Issue(s) – are written in the form of questions!  These issues are questions one might ask regarding how the law applies to the article you have chosen.

Rules – are the laws/rules that the writer thinks may apply to the issues. Remember…the rule MUST BE CITED!

Analysis – is where the writer either proves or disproves the application of the rules.  This is a major focus of the paper and presentation….critical thinking must be applied.

Conclusion – will take one of two approaches.  First, if the court has decided the case, do you agree with the decision?  Why, or why not?  If the court has yet to make a decision, what do you think needs to be done, and why.

There is no minimum or limitation to the length of the paper.  The writer’s approach is to be concise, organized, and complete in the presentation of the case. If you need any further clarification of this assignment, please make an appointment to see me during office hours.

Be sure to attach the news article/court case to your essay. If the article/case is not attached a score will not be given. The attachment can be in the form of a link to a web page.

1) First define and explain both viewpoints: one or two sentences for each.

2) Second, concisely state the reasoning from the text for each of these viewpoints.

3) Finally, give your own evaluation of them. Do you agree or disagree with one, or both? Why or why not?

1st Note: Point form is acceptable for this assignment, even preferred.

2nd Note: You do not need to give any background information on the topic or author. You will be graded only on how well you understand the article and it will be important to state your ideas concisely to keep within the 300-word limit.

Health care delivery case assignment

The United States has a unique system of health care delivery which has evolved over time. Although the U.S. health care delivery system has evolved in response to cost, access, and quality, there are often assertions made about health care delivery in the United States. For example, according to Mary Mahon (2015), VP of Public Information at the Commonwealth Fund, the U.S. spends more on health care than other high-income nations, but has a lower life expectancy and worse health.

Case Assignment

After completing the assigned readings, you should have a basic understanding of the characteristics and components of the U.S. health care delivery system. For the Module 1 Case Assignment, review the following assumptions regarding health care in the U.S. (Greenwald, 2010). Although these assumptions are widely publicized, they might be disputed with critical thinking. Evaluate additional literature and consider each of the following assumptions. Explain why you believe the statement is true or false.

  • The U.S. spends too much on health care services.
  • The poor lack health care.
  • The systems in other countries are better.
  • The U.S. health care system is in crisis today.
  • Health care is a right.
