Week 2 – BBC Digital Media Initiative Case Analysis
This week you will be analyzing the web-based case presented in your text: BBC Digital Media Initiative Revisited.
The subject at the center of the case is the BBC’s digital media project, an initiative established in 2008 and halted five years later having never become fully operational. The goal of the project was to transform the way staff developed, used, and shared video/audio material for television and radio production (“BBC abandons £100 digital project,” 2013). Before you can conduct a reasonable analysis of the case it is important to understand the the software the BBC was hoping to develop, including: how it’s used, its limitations, and what is commonly available.
Using this forum, you will collaborate with your classmates to research the capabilities of digital asset management software, collect information on top-rated digital asset management software products, and identify who is using this software. This is also an opportunity for you to share your own experiences with these products as well. This collaborative research activity should provide you the foundation you’ll need to conduct your analysis of the case.
Your contributions may include:
- The name of software product/company
- A summary of the software’s capabilities/information on corporate adoption
- Reviews of the software’s capabilities/limitations
It will also be important to identify any conflicting information you uncover in your search, so we may work through those challenges collectively.
