The Mongols
The Mongols were a people native to the Eurasian steppes. Their lifestyle was that of nomadic pastoralists and was therefore based upon a life in the saddle and of constant movement. These two facts lent themselves to the creation of an impressive and imposing military in the form of a a fast and light cavalry that could quickly deploy and had immense skill in the use of a bow from horseback. Mongols were also frequent participants in tribal warfare and placed great emphasis on this from a cultural perspective. Much of the areas of the world that were conquered by the Mongols during their earlier campaigns had militaries that were composed of infantry and stood little chance against such a quick and expansive cavalry.
