Motivating an Intergenerational Workforce
The class discussions will occur each week. By day three (3) of each week, students must respond to the instructor’s topics/questions. By day six (6) of each week, students must post replies to at least two classmates’ posts. All posts should be at least 100 words in length. Responses are to be thoughtful and well-written (grammar, spelling, etc.). Late or missing discussion posts will not receive credit.
- The article “Motivating an Intergenerational Workforce: Scenarios for Success” by K Lynn Wieck introduced Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as a means of addressing specific differences in the multigenerational nursing workplace. After reading the scenario that focuses on “Social Needs,” how do you feel the solution offered by Wieck might be received by the generations affected? How are social needs met in your place of employment?
- In chapters 4-8 of Shaw’s text, “ghost stories” are presented for each of the five generations discussed as being in the workforce concurrently. How accurately do you feel the “ghost story” for your generation describes the factors impacting your generation? How accurately does the description of your generation describe you as an individual? How accurately does it describe your peers?
