Define and explain Ethical Consulting

DISCUSSION 1 QUESTION

Ethical Consulting

A company that needs help with implementing a process you have little familiarity with has contacted you. Although you could most likely learn it, you would not be a subject matter expert in the period in which they need you. You are certain you could learn the process and could use the extra income, as your consulting has been a little slow. What are the implications for deciding not to take the assignment?  What are the implications for taking the assignment? What would you do and why?  Respond to two classmates’ posts.

Consultants are often described as helpers (Lippitt & Lippitt, 1986; Schein, 2011). Yes I will help the company out to gain more experience and earn a little extra income. In order to accomplish something you have to have on hand experience. So, this would be a great opportunity for me. I do not think this experience would be hard to accomplish do to it being a little familiar to me. I think staying positive and remaining focused will help me prosper with this challenge. The positive implication of taking on this duty is earning extra income and on hand  experience. The negative implications of taking on this duty is not being able to fulfil the company needs. But, this implication only happens to a negative person. I believe anybody who puts their mind to something they able to accomplish it. Nobody is perfect and you will always run into stumbling blocks in the road. But, each person experience things to build them up stronger.

Hello Class,

What are the implications for taking the assignment? What would you do and why?

From what I have found through readings, is that consultant’s help businesses create and make a change go smoothly within the organization. According to Bierema (2014), “consultant as apractitioner of OD who has specialized knowledge of the action research process and facilitationskills to lead organizations through planned change” (Ch.3.1). First thing that I would let the client know is that I am not familiar with the process, but I do my very best in helping out with the change. In my head I know that business is slow for me but I would not want to burn any bridges for future projects within the company. The main thing to be is honest with the client and it might help you at that time or in the future. Really the only reason that I would not take the job is because I am not familiar with the company’s process. Some things that would persuade me to take the job is that I could learn the process in a timely manner which would help me with the change that the company needs help in. One thing that gives me an advantage as an external consultant is that I have worked for many companies with organizational management and that is something that I can use to benefit the company. I would tell the client about past jobs and help the client out with the best of my ability to see the job pull through. According to Carby-Joseph (2017), “A consultant makes sure you effectively execute your plans, holding you accountable for carrying out tasks that achieve your goals” (p.43). The last thing that would be my selling point would be my planning process and how I would show the client my plans on helping out with their issues and what steps that I will take to make sure it happens. Planning in business is crucial to make sure no steps were missed in the process. Thanks for reading my post.
