Taking a clue from Heidegger’s remark on p. 57, “We do not Heideggerize here,” this class will move to p. 7. Note the climax of Heidegger’s lecture on Metaphysics on p. 73. Go on to read pp. 74 to the middle of p. 87 in Chapter 4, “The They, the Call,” in which chapter “Sartre has nightmares, Heidegger tries to think, Karl Jaspers is dismayed, and Husserl calls for heroism.”
Written assignment #5: Answer these questions: What was the climax of Heidegger’s lecture? Why is Edmund Husserl, Heidegger’s mentor, “horrified”? Should we be afraid of Heidegger’s question? Why or why not?
