Introduction:
The role of a chief information officer (CIO) is critical in the acquisition, implementation, maintenance, and improvement in HIT. Healthcare administrators work collaboratively with a CIO with the goal of achieving organizational improvements in both clinical and business processes and while ensuring quality safe care, access, and cost containment.
Tasks:
- Interview a CIO from two healthcare facilities and ask the following questions:
- Compare and contrast each of the CIO’s duties and responsibilities, required skills and competencies, and reporting mechanisms.
- Evaluate both CIOs’ perceptions of challenges in the next five years and make recommendations in addressing each challenges.
