submit a draft of your persuasive essay

Okay—you’ve got a drafting plan and a working thesis statement. Those are the basic elements of your persuasive essay. Now let’s add some development (that’ll be your argument)! Rest assured—if your thesis statement or drafting plan changes as you begin shaping the argument, that’s okay.

Please keep in mind that you’ll have an opportunity to work on this assignment until the Sunday 11:59 pm deadline (of your local time zone), so don’t hesitate to revisit it if you need to.

Constructing Your Persuasive Essay Draft

Before you begin, you should refer to the assignment guidelines and rubric below to make sure you’re fulfilling each aspect of the assignment.

We’ll be using the PIE method to structure supporting paragraphs, so feel free to look back over that material. Although this activity only requires five paragraphs, keep in mind that the first draft is only a starting point, and you may wish to expand your paper for the final submission in Module Seven.

Click here to briefly review the PIE method.

Submitting Your Persuasive Essay Draft

Save your work in a Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Then, check your writing for errors. Once you have proofread your document, submit it via the Module 5, 5-6 Milestone One: Persuasive Essay Draft link in Brightspace.

Assignment Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: Persuasion is a constant in each of our lives. No matter where we look, what we read, what we see, or who we interact with, we are inevitably going to encounter some form of persuasion. Advertisements want us to buy things. Newspapers and television want to convince us of how we should feel about events. We are put into positions where we must defend our thoughts and beliefs to others, and the process we apply is typically some form of persuasion.

Persuasive writing is one of the most powerful forms of writing—it has the ability to influence one’s thoughts, and also the ability to change one’s mind about a particular issue. The persuasive essay is an ideal tool for supporting an opinion on an issue using researched facts and information. It also gives you the chance to recognize an opposing viewpoint and refute it, noting that those who hold the opposing viewpoint are the intended audience of the piece.

Prompt: For this milestone, you will submit a draft of your persuasive essay. At this point in the course, you have completed activities that will help you transform your essay into a draft. This milestone will help you address critical elements I–III below, which will ultimately inform your final submission of the persuasive essay. You must submit your completed Milestone to the assignment page in Brightspace by the deadline.

Specifically, the following critical elementsmust be addressed:

I. Introduction

This is where readers will have a chance to get an idea of what your essay will be about and what you will prove throughout. Do not give all of your information away here, but give readers a sample of what is to come. Do not forget to review your writing plan to make sure you are hitting all of the points that you planned out, while also stating your claim.

  1. Provide an overview of the issue you have selected, briefly describing main points and your argument.
  2. Compose an engaging thesis statement that explains the argument that you will prove and support throughout your essay. This statement will give direction to your essay and should be well thought out.

II. Body

The body is your opportunity to describe and support your argument in depth. Make sure your thoughts and evidence are clear and organized in a way that is easy for readers to follow and understand.

  1. Be sure that you write multiple paragraphs that are focused, clearly state their intent, and move logically from one to the other, building the thesis argument as the essay progresses.
  2. Your body paragraphs should support your argument by combining thoughts and ideas with evidence from sources. There is no such thing as a right or wrong argument; the key is how it is supported and the quality of the evidence used.
  3. Address and refute any opposing viewpoints to your argument. This is your chance to discredit any opposing views, thus strengthening your own.

III. Conclusion

Think of the conclusion as a review of your argument. Use this section to restate your argument and remind readers of your supporting evidence. Think of this as your last chance to persuade readers to agree with you.

  1. Review your argument. This section should consist of a review of your main points employed to support your argument. Think of this as your last chance to prove your point or your closing arguments.
  2. Your conclusion should articulate insights about your argument established through your essay. This should follow logically from your essay, referring to key points or quotes used to support your argument.

Guidelines for Submission: Save your work in a Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Then, check your writing for errors. Once you have proofreadyour document, submit it via the Module 5, 5-6 Milestone One: Persuasive Essay Draftlink in Brightspace.

Supply Chain Modelling and Design Assessment

OMGT2287 Supply Chain Modelling and Design Assessment 1: Case Study
Details
The company produces navels at three plants, which can be delivered directly to the two customers or it can first be shipped to the two warehouses and then to the customers. Shipments between plants are allowed. This also applies to between warehouses and between customers.
The cost of producing the navels is the same at each plant; as a result, the company is only concerned with minimising the total shipping cost incurred in meeting customer demands. The production capacity of each plant (in tons per year) and the customer demand are summarised in the table below:
Plant Capacity
Plant 1 400
Plant 2 375
Plant 3 350
Customer Demand
Customer 1 500
Customer 2 450
The cost (in thousands of dollars) of shipping a ton of the product between each pair of locations is listed in the table below where a blank indicates that the company cannot ship on that route:
From node To node
Plant 1 Plant 2 Plant 3 Warehouse 1 Warehouse 2 Customer 1 Customer 2
Plant 1 1 1 6 7 15 15
Plant 2 1 1 5 6 16 16
Plant 3 1 1 7 6 14 15
Warehouse 1 3 6 8
Warehouse 2 3 7 7
Customer 1 2
Customer 2 2
The management has set the maximum flow between nodes (in tons) as shown in the table below:charteredessay.com/omgt2287-
From node To node
Plant 1 Plant 2 Plant 3 Warehouse 1 Warehouse 2 Customer 1 Customer 2
Plant 1 200 200 250 250 200 200
Plant 2 200 200 250 250 200 200
Plant 3 200 200 250 250 200 200
Warehouse 1 250 250 250
Warehouse 2 250 250 250
Customer 1 200
Customer 2 200
Since sometimes the demands are fluctuated, the company plans to have safety stock of 100 tons at Warehouse 1 and 50 tons at Warehouse 2. The company wants to determine a minimum-cost shipping strategy.
Guidelines: Report Structure
1. Cover page
a. Report’s title
b. Names and student IDs
2. Problem formulation (please ensure that all mathematical symbols are correct and consistent) a.
Define decision variables with a measurement unit (e.g. pallets, kg, or km)
b. Provide an objective function and constraints and clearly show how you formulate them with an explanation what each equation means
c. Ensure that decision variables and each equation are linked back to the data
3. Problem solving (i.e. process of how you find the solution step-by-step)
a. Explain how you implement the model in the Excel spreadsheet i. Explain how you implement each equation in the model using what functions in Excel (e.g. SUMPRODUCT) and where you place it on the spreadsheet (e.g. at Cell B2). If constraints are of the same kind and implemented in the same way, you just need to explain the first one and summarise the rest.
b. Explain how you set up Solver in Excel
c. Do not forget to submit the Excel spreadsheet together with the Word report
4. Discussion
a. Discuss the optimal solution based on the results that you find
b. If you conduct sensitivity analysis, the results should be presented here.
5. Recommendations
a. List and discuss what action should be taken based on the discussion. i. For example, the results may suggest that the optimal solution for the production problem is to make 3 units of X and 4 units of Y. In addition, sensitivity analysis indicates that an increase of each Resource A can increase the profit by $5, up to the maximum of 100 units of Resource A. Your first recommendation can be to produce 3 units of X and 4 units of Y, and the second recommendation is to procure additional 100 units of Resource A.
6. Presentation
a. Discussion and explanation are succinct
b. There is a link between each section. And when the report is read, the reader should not feel jumpy (i.e. some important information is omitted).
c. Cross-referencing and citations are correct, if any
d. All headings and sections are in place
e. Images or figures are clear
f. The writing is readable. You may use Flesch–Kincaid readability tests to evaluate your report.

What is the problem you will be addressing that is connected to your potential field or major?

The reading this week stresses the importance of thesis statements, so let’s take a moment to determine your thesis statement before you begin building more detail into your argument. You have worked on your intended argument over the course of the term. In this activity, you will work to find your argument and make sure you are putting that argument into a clear, concise thesis statement. Open your Writing Plan to use the work you have done so far to respond to the following questions, which will help you through the process.

Answer the questions below in another Word document to construct a working thesis statement. When you have finished answering the questions, copy and paste your answers into the textbox below and click Submit.

You have not yet completed the activity below.

  1. What is the problem you will be addressing that is connected to your potential field or major?
  2. State your argument that addresses this problem. Remember, your argument may have changed now that you’ve conducted more research.
  3. What is your first reason or keypoint why your audience should be persuaded by your argument? Can it be supported using the research you’ve conducted so far? Briefly identify the research you will use to support this point.
  4. What is your second reason or keypoint why your audience should be persuaded by your argument? Can it be supported using the research you’ve conducted so far? Briefly identify the research you will use to support this point.
  5. What is your third reason or keypoint why your audience should be persuaded by your argument? Can it be supported using the research you’ve conducted so far? Briefly identify the research you will use to support this point.
  6. Now, combine your answers to questions 2-5 to construct a thesis statement. Your thesis statement should be 1-2 sentences long. Begin by stating the position you will argue, and then go on to list the reasons or major points you will write about in the paper to defend that position. To review an example, feel free to look back to the discussion of thesis statements in 5-2.

How and How Not to Love Mankind

Topic for the reflection is

How and How Not to Love Mankind

you will type a 1000-1500 word response in which you address EACH of the following points IN YOUR OWN WORDS: 1) What is the author’s main argument? 2) How does he support his main argument (evidence, ancillary arguments, etc.)? 3) Do you agree or disagree with him? 4) Why or why not? 5) Apply the insights of at least two of the readings we have studied in this course (in chapters 1-9) to your analysis. Make sure to give a substantive explanation of how the philosophers’ insights are relevant to the topic you are discussing.
