Communication Plan Template

On January 24, 2012, Rick Wion, director of social media for the McDonald’s Corporation (McDonald’s) was challenged by a series of events. A week earlier, McDonald’s had launched a large public relations campaign using the Twitter hash tag “#MeetTheFarmers” to promote connections with family farms and local suppliers. In order to maximize the Twitter Promoted Trends expenditure (a service Twitter offered to display trending hash tags on its homepage), Wion’s team switched the hash tag halfway through the day from “#MeetTheFarmers” to “#McDStories,” creating an opportunity for the public to share their own positive McDonald’s stories online.

However, within the first hour of switching the hash tag, Wion and his team quickly realized that numerous detractors had hijacked it to express negative comments towards McDonald’s. In an attempt to change the course of the campaign, the hash tag was changed back to “#MeetTheFarmers,” thereby successfully reducing the number of negative comments and discussions.

However, a few days later, the media started to run negative coverage of the “#McDStories” hash tag. With mocking headlines and articles providing screenshots of the negative tweets, very few of the media articles contained any statistics that explained or put proper context behind the situation. Moving forward, Wion needed to devise a better strategy for McDonald’s social media campaigns, while also preventing potential fallouts that could occur with the media by encouraging better media relations and ultimately more accurate reporting.

This case is intended to fulfill the following teaching objectives:

  • To place students directly into a decision making role in a major organization.
  • To recognize the potential for negative consequences when using social media.
  • To evaluate how an organization can develop a positive relationship with the media.
  • To devise a strategy for McDonald’s to utilize in developing future social media campaign

As you prepare your case study analysis, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Read the case study through without stopping to analyze it. Do this to get a basic understanding of what happened, who was involved and the general problems.
  2. Read it a second time to identify the key elements including what happened; the sequence of events; who was involved; any significant relationships; the facts and problems.
  3. With an understanding of what you have been asked to do (i.e. the assignment question), re-read the case study, this time clarifying the key issues and identifying the problems that need to be solved. Remember, case studies are written so that you can propose solutions. As with real-life situations, there is usually more than one way to solve any problem.
  4. Integrate the problems using the theories and concepts that you come to understand from your readings. Do not just simply describe the problems or theories. If you need to make assumptions to fill in any gaps that are not provided in the case study, you will need to explain your reasoning.
  5. Consider a range of possible solutions to the problems. Evaluate the problems by giving your opinion or some expert’s opinions, by considering the advantages and disadvantages of each solution. Justify your choices.
  6. Your response to the case study does not need to be in the form of a report. It can be numbered, following the numbering sequence used in the questions section.

Discuss why this is a good example of leadership through acts of service in terms of the way the actions of the leader demonstrate integrity and personal character building

Provide a 150 word response the below discussion question answer in apa format with in-text citations and references

Answer: The video is very powerful as Joe describes the accounts he had with his Commander.  The Commander clearly understands that family needs to come before work, and in a military situation, there is usually very little wiggle room to just take off from your duties.  The Commander made an enormous difference in Joe’s life and worked hard for Joe and his family.  He found the best doctor around to help his son, than after hearing that the child would require a lot of blood products he coordinated this enormous blood drive.  By doing this, he didn’t only affect Joe’s family, but think of the example and impact he must have had on all of the soldiers that stood by waiting to donate.  We have the follow up story about how Joe’s servant leader inspired him to serve but I can be almost certain that those other soldiers were also moved and impacted by the gesture from the Commander.  These principles align with Greenleaf because the Commander demonstrated empathy, listening and he completely went out of his way to serve the Schmitt family.  He put their needs before the needs of the military with all of these projects Joe was working on. These actions are also very Christian like because he is essentially being called to serve others and now Joe spearheads the Wounded Warrier project.  I like to think that the Commander had been inspired to perform the acts because he too has a story to tell like Joe Schmitt now does.

Original Question:

Watch the video “Servant Leadership – Joe Schmitt.” Discuss why this is a good example of leadership through acts of service in terms of the way the actions of the leader demonstrate integrity and personal character building while also establishing followership and pushing others to grow professionally through emulating his actions. Discuss how this example embraces both Greenleaf’s principles of servant leadership and the call to service evident in Christianity.

Discuss Revenue Expense and Profitability

The purpose of financial ratio analysis is to provide information about the financial performance of an organization which goes beyond that which is available from analyzing only one line item at a time. Ratios are generally grouped into four categories: Liquidity; Revenue, Expense, and Profitability; Activity; and Capital Structure.

Liquidity ratios answer the question: “How well is the organization positioned to meet its short-term obligations?”

Revenue, Expense and Profitability ratios answer two questions: (1) “How profitable is an organization?” and (2) “How effective is it in controlling its operating costs and increasing its operating revenues?”

Activity ratios answer the question: “How efficiently is the organization using its assets to produce revenues?”

Capital Structure ratios answer two questions: (1) “How are the organization’s assets financed?”; and( 2) “How able is the organization to take on new debt?”
Exhibit 4.21 on page 193 of our textbook (Zelman et al.) lists 17 financial ratios for the 189-bed Collings wood Community Hospital. For this Discussion, choose six of the ratios and discuss the following:

  1. From the definition of the ratios, explain why your selected ratios changed from 20X0 to 20X1. Be sure to indicate if the change noted is favorable or not and explain why.
  2. Compare your selected ratios with the national industry benchmarks for Collingswood’s bed size using the data shown in Exhibit 4.16a on p. 185.  Indicate whether or not Collingswood’s current performance on each of the selected ratios is better or worse than the corresponding industry benchmarks. Explain how the hospital can improve its current performance relative to individual benchmarks for each of the selected ratios.

General Guidance on Discussion Posts: Your original post, due by Day 3, will typically be 3–4 paragraphs in length as a general expectation/estimate. Refer to the Week 5 Discussion Rubric for grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use the rubric to assess your work.
