Discuss the effectiveness of a marketing campaign including advertising personal selling promotion

Case studies are an important learning strategy in business classes as they provide an opportunity for you to critically analyze events that have taken place in real-life businesses. This develops your critical thinking and research skills as you research the competition and industry in which your business resides with an end goal of formulating a recommendation for the challenges faced by the company.

Select one of the three case studies listed below, which can be found in your textbook. Evaluate the case of your choice, and respond to each of the questions below using both theory and practical managerial thinking as well as supporting research.

Option 1: Red Bull (pp. 581–582)

1. What are Red Bull’s greatest strengths as more companies (like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Monster) enter the energy drink category and gain market share? What are the risks to their brand equity of competing against such powerhouses?

2. Discuss the pros and cons of Red Bull’s nontraditional marketing tactics. Should the company do more traditional advertising? Why, or why not?

3. Discuss the effectiveness of Red Bull’s sponsorships, advertisements, personal selling strategies, promotion, events, and public relations. Where should the company draw the line in terms of risk?

4. Recommend the next steps for Red Bull with respect to their marketing and advertising strategies. Option 2: Gillette (pp. 612–613)

1. Gillette has successfully convinced the world that more is better in terms of number of blades and other razor features. How did they do it? Why has that worked in the past? Will it continue to work in the future? Why, or why not? Will Gillette ever become as successful at marketing to women as to men? Why, or why not?

2. Why have Gillette’s sports marketing partnerships been so successful in developing their brand equity?

3. Some of Gillette’s spokespeople such as Derek Jeter and Tiger Woods have run into controversy after becoming

endorsers for the brand. Does this hurt Gillette’s brand equity or marketing message? Explain.

4. Discuss the effectiveness of their overall marketing campaign including advertising, personal selling, promotion,

events, and public relations strategies.

5. Recommend next steps for Gillette with respect to their marketing and advertising strategies.

Option 3: Unilever (Axe and Dove) (pp. 632–633)

1. What makes personal marketing work? Why are Dove and Axe so successful at developing their brand equity?

2. Discuss the effectiveness of the overall marketing campaigns including advertising, personal selling, promotion,

events, and public relations strategies.

3. Is there a conflict of interest in the way Unilever markets to women and young men? Is it undoing all the good that

might be done in the “Campaign for Real Beauty” by making women sex symbols in Axe ads? Discuss.

4. Recommend next steps for Unilever with respect to their marketing and advertising strategies.

In formatting your case analysis, do not use the question-and-answer format; instead, use an essay format with subheadings. Your APA-formatted case study should be a minimum of 500 words in length (not counting the title and reference pages). You are required to use a minimum of three peer-reviewed, academic sources that are no more than 5 years old (one may be your textbook). All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased material must have accompanying in-text citations

Discuss on “Focus Groups” Marketing Management

Focus Groups

Context/overview: This week, we looked briefly at marketing research tools. One popular tool is the focus group. In your assignment this week, you will read more about conducting and analyzing focus groups, before conducting your own sample focus group.

First, locate the following articles through EBSCOhost:

Second, document the steps you will take to organize a “focus group” for the product you are developing for this course.

Write 2-3 pages that include a discussion on:

  • Who you would invite (if this were a “real” focus group)
  • What questions you would ask (provide 5 sample questions)
  • What information you hope to gain
  • How you would compensate the participants for their time (if this were a “real” focus group)
  • The logistics of conducting the focus group (refer to the assigned articles for ideas)
  • How you plan to record the proceedings of the focus group

Third, conduct the focus group with family or friends to obtain some sample data for analysis. Upon completing the focus group, discuss the process of conducting the focus group along with your findings in approximately 2-3 pages.

  • What issues arose during your sample focus group with family/friends
  • How did the focus group participants interact with each other?
  • What challenges did you face regarding data collection and analysis?
  • What insights did you gain upon analyzing the results of the focus group?

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

  • Write between 750 – 1,250 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.
  • Use font size 12 and 1” margins.
  • Include cover page and reference page.
  • At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing.
  • No more than 20% of your content/information may come from references.
  • Use at least three references from outside the course material, one reference must be from EBSCOhost. Text book, lectures, and other materials in the course may be used, but are not counted toward the three reference requirement.
  • Cite all reference material (data, dates, graphs, quotes, paraphrased words, values, etc.) in the paper and list on a reference page in APA style.

References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.

A detailed explanation of how to cite a source using APA can be found here (link).

Management Policy And Strategy

In this Assignment, you will culminate two course outcomes related to policy development:

MT460-6: Compose business policies to enable implementation of a strategic plan.

GEL-7.02: Apply ethical reasoning to ethical issues within the field of Management Policy and Strategy.

There is an important symbiotic relationship between strategy and policy for managers and leaders to understand. Business policy helps guide strategy implementation from a control perspective, but it can also enable innovation. Policy must be carefully developed so to empower employees, but must also be stringent enough to set boundaries and enforce expectations. To understand the central significance of the relationship between policy and strategy to top managers and their organizations, you must gain an understanding of how environments, external and internal, affect the functioning of an organization. You must develop an ability to evaluate environment to detect opportunities and threats in it to which alert managers must respond. It means an understanding of the processes through which managers can best determine those missions and objectives their organizations should seek; it means the ability to formulate and evaluate the best policies and strategies to achieve these ends, and the methods to assure that policies and strategies are implemented. This is an important strategic leadership and management ability that you must demonstrate and continuously hone throughout your career.

In this Assignment, you will compose business policies using ethical theories and principles from a leadership and management perspective. Ethics plays an important role in strategic decision-making. Managers and leaders must be adept in understanding such concepts like Corporate Social Responsibility, sustainability, diversity, negotiation, sales tactics, etc. All strategic decisions involve trade-offs, and businesses might pursue one goal while subordinating another. However, managers and leaders must consider legal, ethical, and moral boundaries and regulations with company goals, objectives and directives. Leaders and managers must continuously hone strategic decision-making knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors as an important 21st Century professional competency.

To demonstrate your understanding of business policy with relation to business ethics concepts in this Assignment, design a narrated PowerPoint presentation to include the following information:

  • Conduct research to identify an article highlighting a recent (no more than three years old) ethics scandal using the Purdue University Global Library or other approved resources.
  • Tell the story. Provide a synopsis of the ethics scandal by providing specific details about the company, professionals, victims, the dilemma, government, etc.
  • Explain what drove the unethical behaviors and/or business strategies that caused the scandal.
  • Explain the costs associated with the business ethics failures from a corporate social responsibility and/or environmental sustainability perspective.
  • Explain what managers and leaders of the company should have done to prevent the scandal.
  • Explain what business policies and strategic decisions could have prevented the scandal from occurring.
  • Could centralized or decentralized decision-making have prevented the scandal from occurring? Explain.
  • Compose and explain business policies that establish standards of ethical behavior no different from the ethical standards and norms of the larger society and culture that could prevent a scandal like this from occurring ever again in the business.
  • Ensure your business policies balance corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability with economic responsibilities to shareholders to prevent inequity.

Use as many concepts from Chapters 9 and 10 of your textbook to complete this Assignment as possible. You are the professional and will need to determine how many slides and how long the presentation should be to meet the requirements of this Assignment. You are capable of making such decisions at this level of your degree program. Take the initiative to be the problem solver and strategic decision-maker. Each slide should have a verbal narration and notes. Your slides should be professionally designed.
