Journal response. In Weeks 3-7 you were directed to keep a professional work journal (Please refer to Week 2 for a review of instructions). Now you will review your work journal entries and arrange some of them into an essay. The essay will reflect upon those five (5) weeks of experiences recorded in your journal and what you have learned.  Include how they may have furthered your career or caused you to rethink your career goals.  Your essay should include your experiences, observations, and the key concepts based on the internship and business course experience. Reminder About Journaling: Whether you want to be able to look back at where you started, set a future state for yourself and seek a new path, or just deal with present issues, journaling helps you do that in a reflective way. You need not write every day. Journaling gives you a place to better understand yourself, to plan your goals, and to follow-up on goals. One pitfall of journaling is that it can devolve into a log of your feelings for any one day. You want to keep these types of emotional responses from happening.

Provide a brief background summary of MRMC

After receiving MBA from FSU BCBE in May you have just taken the position of Manager of Professional Training and Development at First Health’s Moore Regional Medical Center (MRMC). The Chief Human Resource Officer has just assigned you to create an internship and continuing education curriculum for newly hired RNs.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation longitudinal study of newly licensed and employed RNs found that nationally 17.5 % of newly Licensed AA RNs left their job in their first year of employment; 33.3% leave their first position by the second year. The Hospital will receive a higher insurance reimbursement rate if 75%of its nursing staff are RN BSN nurses. The Hospital has as two of its strategic goals to:

· Reduce new RN turnover by 20% year on year

· Achieve 50% conversion of new AA RNs to BSN RNs within 5 years

As part of this strategy the HR department policy will be changed that newly hired AA RNs must successfully complete an 8-week internship course as a condition of being hired. Furthermore, these AA RNs must be actively pursuing an RN to BSN program and complete the BSN within 5 years to sustain employment beyond 5 years. For planning purposes assume that MRMC will hire 20 AA RNs in May and 20 more in December to accommodate expected attrition and growth in hospital census.
