Justify your answers using examples and reasoning. Comment on the postings of at least two classmates with regard to whether you agree or disagree with their views.

Meeting Medical Challenges with Artificial Intelligence

One area where human intelligence is limited is in the area of medicine. It often takes a doctor to determine a medical condition, and doctors cannot be everywhere. However, if the knowledge and processes that doctors use can be transmitted to machines, the knowledge and diagnosis of the medical field can be greatly expanded.

Discuss how expert systems, neural networks, and genetic algorithms can help scientists meet medical challenges. Provide an example of each system. Select one of your three examples and describe the system more in-depth. Give an example of a system currently being used and describe how and where it is in use today.

  • Toggle DrawerContextEmployees are a significant group of stakeholders in an organization. As at-will employment and outsourcing become more common in the business world, many employees who once trusted their employers and expected lifetime employment have been shocked by the lack of relationship between themselves and their employer. At the same time, employers argue that they have never paid more for benefits or been more accountable for their behavior toward employees.
To what extent does an organization demonstrate the ethics it espouses? What contributes to the ethical framework of a company’s operation? Are values statements real, and are people held accountable to them? What role does organizational culture play in guiding ethical behavior? Should values dominate an organization’s culture? How do leaders contribute to the ethical profile of an organization? How can organizational structures create support or vulnerability with operating in an ethically sound manner?
  • Toggle DrawerQuestions to ConsiderTo deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the business community.
    • What criteria are important to you when determining the level of an organization’s ethical performance? Why are these important criteria? Consider both corporate and personal values as part of the criteria. Examples may include treatment of employees, compliance with laws, or treatment of the environment (such as air quality).
    • Consider your best experience in working for someone who demonstrated exemplary ethical behavior. Or, consider your worst experience in working for someone who demonstrated unethical behavior. For the situation selected, what are the characteristics of the person, from an organizational values approach? In other words, what stated corporate values were modeled or ignored by this person? What effect did it have on the organization? If you decide to discuss this with others, protect the confidentiality of all individuals involved by substituting made-up names for the organization and the individuals.

It is now time to consider developing your own HR department team to ensure they have the requisite skills and competencies necessary to perform at high levels over time. Effective and motivated HR business partners (HRBP) will be the key to translating HR and business strategy into action. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Body of Competency and Knowledge (BoCK) can be an invaluable resource to help develop and certify HR professionals. You must now explain to the management team the components of this model and how it can be leveraged to achieve operational success for the HR department. A one-hour meeting has been scheduled, and the CEO will be in attendance.
Create a 20-slide minimum PowerPoint presentation with your script or discussion or commentary in the Notes section of each slide, in which you do the following:

    1. Include cover, presentation agenda, conclusion, and reference list slides, all of which may count toward total slide count.
    2. Provide a slide with an overview on the importance of having a highly-developed staff of HR business partners. Be clear with your position.
    3. Provide 1–4 slides introducing the SHRM BoCK model and its components. Be sure to highlight each of the areas of the model. Note: It is highly recommended to insert an image of the actual SHRM BoCK model into the presentation.
    4. Include in the remaining slides the following required presentation information:
      • Provide a minimum of three to four bullet points (more if needed) of information or discussion describing the specifics on the SHRM BoCK’s “Behavioral Competencies.”
      • Provide a minimum of three to four bullet points (more if needed) of information or discussion describing the specifics on the SHRM BoCK’s “HR Expertise: Domains 1 & 2.”
      • Provide a minimum of three to four bullet points (more if needed) of information or discussion describing the specifics on the SHRM BoCK’s “HR Expertise: Domains 3 & 4.”
      • Provide a minimum of three to four bullet points (more if needed) of information or discussion describing specifics on certifying your HRBPs.
        • Note: Good PowerPoints have very few words on the slides themselves—almost all of the information you need to include should be in the Notes.
    5. Use at least four quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: You may only use the resources listed in the Course Guide and those that are specifically provided by the professor.
    6. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
      • Select any one of three professional PowerPoint templates provided by the professor (required).
      • Have headings for each section with all bulleted information aligned properly and using the same font and size. Images may be used but must be professional and relevant to the topic.
      • The source or sources of all images must be credited with both citation and reference. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
      • Include citations and references for all information received from other sources.
      • All bullet point information in the Notes sections must be descriptive and have a minimum of 3–4 full sentences.
    7. This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
The specific course outcome associated with this assignment is:

      • Assess the ethical nature of a selected organization.
      • Identify the major stakeholders and their roles and responsibilities regarding an issue.

  • Toggle DrawerContextStakeholders are not limited to directly involved groups and individuals who benefit directly from the corporation. Often, the entire community is affected by an organization’s actions, or lack of reactions. For example, board members, regulators, and consumers participate in the business process every day. To what extent should they shape or influence ethical behavior in business?
Understanding stakeholder needs, as well as threats to the organization, is a key component of the process of managing ethical issues. It is equally important to learn to identify issues and put them in a context or framework, to facilitate management decision making. One of the challenges of marketplace globalization is creating ethical policies and guidelines that monitor how we do business in the global market.
  • Toggle DrawerQuestions to ConsiderTo deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the business community.
    • Workplace privacy is a very contentious issue today, because the growth of technology that might threaten privacy is outpacing the development of privacy laws. New technologies for communication and surveillance are not legally restricted because they are not yet addressed in existing laws. What right to privacy you believe an employee should enjoy at work? What right to surveillance should a company have in watching over the employees it is paying, and the property it owns? Where would you draw the line with regard to workplace privacy?
    • Think about a real-world example of whistleblowing with which you are personally familiar, or which you have heard about. Why might you feel pressure not to report what you know in the situation, and to what extent would it affect you? What would you do (or did you do) in this situation? Would a code of ethics you are familiar with, such as a military code that requires reporting of unethical behavior, influence your decision?
    • Analyze an advertisement that was misleading, and did not provide complete and honest information about the product or service. Your example might be from print, television, radio, or the Internet. It might be local, national, or international. How could this deception have been harmful? What action would you recommend to deter this type of deception in the future?

Where is the best place for you in the VMI team?

Week 3 Brainstorming Discussions

Must post first.

Topic: Where is the best place for you in the VMI team?

CEO CHINN has asked HR to provide him with a series of tests that will help him in assessing what position you are best suited to fill when your onboarding is complete.  It also contains short job description for each of the positions that will open. Since you are familiar with these positions and their roles from your orientation, you think that the types of tests they ask you to take will not only tell Chinn what job is best for you, but it should tell you as well. This may give you a better idea of your chance of getting the position.

Directions:

1. By FRIDAY, complete the following:

  • See the steps set out below and complete the table and explanation of the results.
  • You must use course material to support your responses and APA in-text citations with a reference list.

2. THROUGHOUT the week, complete the following:

  • Respond to your classmates three or more days throughout the week. Remember you are trying to develop the best answers to the questions as possible. Your classmates are doing the same so read the posts carefully looking for the best ideas being presented.  The goal is that by the end of the week the class will come to some consensus as to the best answers giving you the chance to submit the best ideas in the final post.
  • You must use course material to support your responses but you do not need to use APA in the brainstorming discussion with the exception of Friday’s initial first impression post.
