Throughout this course we have been analyzing ethical dilemmas related to the field of Organizational/Industrial Psychology. We have studied the different types of ethics related to these dilemmas; personal, group, organizational and societal, and explored many of the trending issues as described by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
For this final assignment, you will be analyzing the Gulf Oil spill that happened in 2010 year. This case study ties in the material we have learned in previous sections through the individual ethics lessons, group (leadership/followership) ethics, and now, organizational ethics.

- The Spill, a Films on Demand video of a PBS presentation reviewing the Deepwater Horizon explosion, and the impact BP’s questionable business practices and corporate culture had on the disaster.
- Once you have reviewed the documentation, complete the following:
- Analyze and prioritize the systemic problems at BP. Be sure to address the issues from the Individual, Group (Leadership/followership), Organizational, and Societal levels.
- Identify the legal issues and ethical dilemmas related to the BP case study. Make sure to reference the documentation provided in the materials that helped you complete your analysis.
- Address the following:
- The case study identified what BP provided employees after the Texas city incident. When an accident occurs, what ethical responsibility does a large company have?
- What is their responsibility to employees, to the community, to the environment in which they are operating, to society?
- BP identified that they hired a new CEO. If the new CEO also hired you as an I/O practitioner to help him establish an ethical culture and safety first mentality, what steps would you take to accomplish those objectives? Provide an action plan.
- Support your analysis and action plan with recent, relevant academic literature, a review of related laws and legal precedents, and documented examples of best practices.
- Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological professions.
