You will accomplish several tasks with this first assignment in the course. The first task is to introduce yourself to NCU’s Instructional Design Community of Practice (ID CoP) located in the NCU Commons if you haven’t already done so. The link is available in this week’s resources.
In doing so, you will begin or extend your own community of practice and support from your peers. Almost everything is more fun when you are joined by a friend. Whether you meet NCU students who live around the world or around the corner, you will find that they have different perspectives borne from their own lived experiences. Your neighbors near and far will help you develop and hone your understanding and application of diversity, equity, and inclusion through design.
You will also explore your own motivation for engaging in your degree program. What brought you back to school? Is your return [to school] related to any economic, employment, educational, or other trends you have noticed? Whatever the degree program in which you are engaged, and whatever you already know or don’t know about ID, connecting with other educators and designers is a good idea. Read the introductions of others in this community; what similarities and differences do you see?
Follow these steps to complete and submit your assignment:
- Compose your introduction in a document. Share as much personal information as you are comfortable, and be sure to address your motivation for returning to school.
- Use the link included in this week’s resources to access the NCU ID CoP conversation for this assignment.
- Copy the text of your introduction from the document and paste the text as a reply to the conversation titled, “ID-5000 Week 1: Relate to Others through the ID-CoP.” Remember, a link to this conversation is posted in the resources section.
- After confirming that your reply posted, copy the URL to your specific post into the same document in which you originally composed your introduction. This document, with both your introduction and the URL to your specific post, is what you will submit to this week’s Dropbox.
If you have trouble posting your reply, you may need to “Join” the ID CoP group. You can find additional help at the bottom of any page in the Commons; a link to this help page is included in this week’s resources.
