Identify strategies for facilitating appropriate citation of sources in APA style.
Psychologists, including psychology students, write in the format and style of the American Psychological Association (APA), which is referred to as “APA Style.” APA style is used to provide a consistent writing and documentation format across the discipline of psychology and has been adopted by many psychology journals worldwide. Many other disciplines in the social sciences also utilize APA style.
Learning the precise mechanics of APA style lends credibility to your writing, and helps researchers and academics alike follow ideas back to the original sources. APA style is also utilized as a means to prevent plagiarism. In addition to writing in APA style in your academic assignments, you might also find that you will need to know how to write in APA style if you have a job that involves conducting research, writing technical reports on clients’ progress, writing grants, and/or other types of manuscripts. Learning to write in APA style is essential to your success as a Psychology Major at Walden, as could be applied to your professional life. As you proceed through your program of study, you will practice writing in APA style so by the time you take your Capstone course you will be an expert!
