Please look over the two samples es-says attached. (You will notice that while this student’s es-say is not flawless, he defended his thesis well with strong supporting details and relevant examples.)

For this es-say, you are taking and advocating for a particular viewpoint or perspective on an issue.  You can pick any issue you want (gun control, the death penalty, drug legalization, etc) and pick any side of the issue you would like.  It’s up to you.  Use the es-says posted above as model of position es-says. 

For the es-say, be sure to avoid using first-person voice.  Write the es-say in third person voice throughout.  Make sure the es-say consists of at least five paragraphs of writing and is at least 500 words in length. 

You can take until Saturday the 30th on this assignment if you’d like.

Please keep in mind that no outside sources should be used in this es-say. Also, remember that all of your writing is automatically submitted to a plagiarism checker. Therefore, please do not be tempted to cut and paste from the Internet. (The result will be an “F” on the es-say.)

Please read this carefully! I want to make sure everyone understands the assignments. After you submit your position es-say by Saturday, October 30, I will grade it and return it to you by the end of Week Eight.  During Week Eight, we will begin researching in the library’s databases together for possible quotes you can use. You will then begin revising your position es-say into a research pa-per using the sources you found. Since you will have already written a position es-say on a social issue, all you will need to do is add quotes or paraphrases from academic sources into your es-say. (The final draft of your future research es-say will be due at the end of Week Nine.)
