Equal rights refer to a concept that ensures that everyone gets treated equally.
Equal Rights
In which ways is the question of “equal rights” an open, unresolved issue in the world today? Is the concept of equal rights the same across cultures?
The modern-day examples must come from specific countries in at least two different world regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Mideast.
Your answer to the question will become the main point (thesis) of the essay. The essay will focus on using facts and examples (evidence) from your sources to prove that your answer is valid.
The essay should be from 4-6 pages, including introduction and conclusion, not counting the bibliography, typed in a 12-point font (Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman), and double-spaced.
1. In a single sentence, write up a SPECIFIC ANSWER to your essay question. This will be the THESIS of your paper. Your paper will focus on proving that your answer to the question is correct.
2. Write an INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH in which you explain, in detail, what you plan to do in your paper. This should include your thesis statement as well as a description of the various topics you will cover.
3. You should also hand in an “ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY” listing the five sources that you plan to use for your paper.
- The essay should make use of at least five sources.
- At least one of the sources must be a primary source
- At least two sources must be from reliable news sources
- Each source must provide different information.
- No textbooks or encyclopedias! (online or hard copy) This includes Wikipedia as well as encyclopedia-type websites like ask.com or history.com.
Citations: When referring to specific portions of the readings, cite by placing the author’s last name and the page number in parentheses at the end of the sentence. EXAMPLE: (Perry, 253)If you are using an online source, leave out the page number.
Include an annotated bibliography of your sources. This means that for each source you will add a brief paragraph summarizing the information that the source provides for your research paper.
Example of annotated bibliography:

Equal rights refer to a concept that ensures that everyone gets treated equally. Equality is the state when everyone is equal and treated in the same way regardless of their sex, gender, status, among other factors that may make an individual feel like they are not being treated the same way as other people. This concept comes to light in relation to the current issue of the COVID-19 Pandemic happening all across the world. There are certain aspects of what is happening across the world right now that bring out the issues relating to the lack of equal rights for certain groups of people. The equal rights concept remains unresolved and is not the same in all cultures. This is evidenced in the following examples.
The first example of the issue of equal rights is the research provided in an article in the New York Times indicating that Latino and Black in NY are getting killed by the virus at the rate twice to that killing white people, it presents an issue as to whether white people are protected more as compared to the blacks and Latinos. The findings of the study were that the difference in death rates is due to inequalities in economic status and access to healthcare that places most white people in New York at an advantage. This makes it seem like the New York hospitals are prioritizing those who have a high economic status when it comes to the right to healthcare.
The second example of the issue of equal rights is in the article by Jessica Mendoza dated 31st March 2020, whereby the equal rights of people with Chinese descent are being infringed upon. Since it was established that the virus originated from Wuhan, China, there have been many cases of discrimination of people of Asian and Chinese heritage across the world as they have been targets of verbal attacks from the pubic including officials of the public who describe COVID-19 as “Wuhan” or “Chinese” virus. Their rights to equal treatment are being infringed upon due to the virus outbreak beginning in China.
